Selby District Council Meeting at Brayton Barff
Posted by: DerekCooper - 07-06-2017, 09:15 PM - Forum: What is planned. - No Replies

Wednesday 7th June. Brayton Barff.

Today at 200pm I had a meeting with Mrs Suzanne Sweeting, Partnership Project Officer for Selby District Council.

We walked the perimeter of the land owned by SDC as shown on the site plan sent to me by Kenny Ransome of SDC.

During the 1 hour visit to the area in question we established a mutual and amicable train of thought regarding this particular area.

I asked Suzanne what the Council's responsibilities were on this site. I also commented on what we the FOBB group had to offer in order to help protect and conserve the Old Heathland and surrounding woodland that falls within the SDC area.

I told her that we did not want to change anything other than to keep the open grassland area exactly as it is. A small amount of work might be needed to control spreading brambles and nettles on the Heathland area. We already pick litter up on this site.

I asked if it could be at all possible for the SDC to promote and assist in protecting this area from fires, camping and anti social acts.

I  also asked that along with Yorkshire Water, that we as a group, can have an on going dialogue with Selby District Council to safeguard the Heathland area for the benefit of the Flora and Fauna and for the local communities that frequent it. Suzanne seemed positive that this will happen.

Suzanne left the Barff  after our visit to liase with colleagues at SDC and promised to get back with a plan of action regarding this area.

Along with Geoff Lomas of Yorkshire Water, I suggested that we could include Suzanne within our FOBB Email facility, so that the SDC also know what we are planning and organising for the near future on the Barff.

Enjoying watching the woodpeckers feeding their young . They look just about ready to fledge.  The tawny owl plays hide and seek there one day and not the next but looks down at you unconcerned.Has anyone spotted any youngsters.?

  The Heathland, Brayton Barff.
Posted by: DerekCooper - 22-05-2017, 09:01 PM - Forum: General Chat - No Replies

Today the 22nd May 2017, members of the Friends of Brayton Barff met up with Kenny Ransome, Estates Officer for Selby District Council. The objective was to clarify who is responsible for an area of land at the rear of the Barff referred to as the Heathland. Some of us have always assumed that it belonged to SDC. Geoff Lomas of Yorkshire Water indicated to us that it is not their property. Todays meeting did not clarify the ownership of the Heathland. Kenny Ransome was unsure and stated that he would have to confer with colleagues at SDC and hopefully come back to us to confim ownership asap. Once this is done the FOBB would then be able to offer help and assistance to help protect this particular area of the Barff.
